Yalda Abbasî & Trio Sêreng
Kurdish musician Yalda Abbasî (vocals, dotar) and Trio Sêreng (Nure Dlovani on violin, Beate Wolff on cello, Laia Genç on piano) combine the great diversity of Kurdish music with elements of Western classical and jazz music and unite the different worlds. The four musicians meet on stage and carry with them the roots of their homelands of Iran, Armenia, Turkey and Germany, recreating the music of Mesopotamia through their arrangements and original compositions.
The four women always see their artistic work as a commitment to Kurdish culture and self-determination. Abbasî sings and composes in both Kurdish and Persian. Her repertoire draws inspiration from her collection of almost forgotten Kurdish folk music and melodies from her northeastern Iranian home region of Khorassan.
She has lived in Italy since 2016, which gave her the opportunity to expand her musical spectrum and study classical baroque singing at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan.
Trio Sêreng was founded in 2018 by Kurdish violinist Nure Dlovani, German jazz cellist Beate Wolff and German-Turkish pianist Laia Genç. The Kurdish translation of "Sêreng" is "three colors". Each of the three musicians contributes their own color to the ensemble; an enrichment of cultural and musical experience and sound.
The result of their collaboration is a special concert experience with a harmonious fusion of Western and Middle Eastern sounds, classical chamber music and jazz, folklore and improvisation.
